Oswago, Amadi and Nyachae among 37 individuals in race for IEBC chairperson role

Dr. Nelson Makanda, Chairperson of the Selection Panel, confirmed that 37 individuals are in the race for the top position, while 1,319 others have been shortlisted for member positions.
Former Chief Registrar Anne Amadi, ex-IEBC CEO James Oswago, and Kenya Power Board Chairperson Joy Brenda Mdivo are among 37 individuals shortlisted for the position of Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The names were published on Thursday in local dailies.

Other notable candidates include former Nairobi City County Assembly Clerk Jacob Ngwele, human rights activist Kaikai Kissinge, and former Constitution Implementation Committee Chair Charles Nyachae.

The list comprises six women, 31 men, and three Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs).
“Following the longlisting exercise, the Selection Panel shall now proceed to undertake the shortlisting process, the list of which will also be published soon before proceeding with the interviews,” Makanda said.
Among those who have also applied for the top position at IEBC are Abdulqadir Lorot H. Ramadhan, Calistus Wekesa Waswa, Cedrick Ogoro Mukhwana, Choge Rollince, Chrisphine Otieno Owiye, Duncan Oburu Ojuwang, Edward Katama Ngeywa, Erastus Edung Ethekon, and Fred Khaemba Musungu.
Others include Isaac Mutie Mutua, Jackson Angoturum, James Humphrey Obanda Oswago, Josiah Onyanchaa, Samuel Osewe Ochillo, Justry Patrick Lumumba Nyaberi, and Kadhua Jimmy Kahindi.
The list also features Kenneth Kiplimo Kemboi, Kibet Victor, Lilian Wanjiku Manenge, Nelly Peris Ashubwe, Patrick Omutia Otulia, Peterkin Nyongesa, Samson Omua Ogada, Samuel Kariuki Kiragu, Saul Simiyu Wasilwa, Thomas Maosa Nyakambi, Vincent Omondi Olouch, Walubengo Waningilo, William Otieno Oketch, Wilson Wambugu Maina, Wycliffe Kiprotich Kiprono Bonnke, and Yvonne Mercy Olaka.
Going further, Makanda assured Kenyans that the panel is working within its timelines and is on course to complete the selection process within the 90-day deadline set by the IEBC Act.
He also noted that most applications came from Homa Bay County, which had five candidates. Kisii, Bungoma, and Trans Nzoia counties each had three, while Siaya, Nyeri, and Baringo counties had two applicants each. Other counties had either one or none.
