The government today announced its pursuit to increase meat exports to Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Jonathan Mueke, the Principal Secretary for Livestock Development, engaged in discussions with the Kenyan Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mohamed Ramadhan Ruwainge, and Kenyan Qatar Ambassador, Mohamed Nur Adan.
Mueke stated that the two countries serve as significant markets for Kenyan meat, and after extensive discussions, they agreed to boost meat exports to these nations. The Principal Secretary assured the diplomats that meat from Kenyan livestock farmers would meet all food safety standards.

The PS stressed that Kenyan livestock farmers have the capacity to produce the quality and quantity of meat required in Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Two years ago, the Saudi Arabian government introduced new requirements for Kenya's meat exports, specifying refrigeration and compliance with updated regulations.
The export statistics to Saudi Arabia, as per United Nations COMTRADE data updated in January 2024, indicate that Kenya exported meat and edible offal worth Usd11.43 million in 2022. Meanwhile, exports to Qatar amounted to Usd9.18 thousand for meat and edible meat offal during the same period.
