Barasa was found in possession of a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number KMFZ 413W, which matched the one seen in CCTV footage near Parliament trailing the late MP’s vehicle.
“It is believed the same motorcycle was used by the attackers to follow and later escape after the fatal shooting,” DCI said in a statement on Wednesday.
Investigations revealed that Barasa was the rider of the motorcycle and had been hired by the main suspects to support the operation.
During questioning, DCI reveals that the suspect admitted his involvement, stating he was paid Sh50,000 for his role.
Authorities further revealed that Barasa often poses as a boda boda operator while working with armed gangs.
His profile shows a long history of criminal activity, including time spent in Industrial Area Prison. It was there that he reportedly came into contact with some of the other suspects involved in the killing.
Police described Barasa as a habitual offender, and his arrest is seen as a major step forward in the ongoing investigation.
DCI says the suspect is currently being processed for arraignment as officers continue to piece together the full network behind the killing.
