Why DCI boss Mohamed Amin believes OCS Taalam is a suspect in Albert Ojwang's death
The DCI boss said Taalam declined to book the suspect when he was brought to the station and is the source of the narrative that Ojwang banged his head on a wall.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss, Mohamed Amin, has explained why he believes Nairobi Central Police Station OCS Samson Taalam should be treated as the prime suspect in the death of Albert Ojwang.
Appearing before the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security on Thursday, the DCI boss said Taalam declined to book the suspect when he was brought to the station and is the source of the narrative that Ojwang banged his head on a wall.

“The statement of Albert Ojwang banging his head on the wall came from Central Police Station, and he’s the Officer Commanding Central Police Station. Why would an officer call him with such a narrative?” Mohamed told the MPs.
“That’s why I said whatever utterances the OCS Taalam is making, we should treat them with a pinch of salt. We should treat them as a suspect, of course. Why would somebody coin that all?” he posed.
Mohamed said the actions of the OCS raised serious questions.
Ojwang died on June 7 while in police custody, days after being arrested in Homa Bay over claims of false publication.
The case has sparked public outrage and an ongoing probe by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority.
On Wednesday, while appearing before the Senate, Mohamed said that investigations have established that OCS Taalam declined to book Ojwang when he was presented at the station, raising serious questions over his conduct and possible culpability.
“It has further been confirmed that before the booking, the report office personnel called the OCS, and unfortunately, it is being said that (Taalam is the OCS and not the OCPD) he declined to book the suspect,” Mohamed told the Senate.
“Taalam is the Officer Commanding Central Police Station, and from the totality of things, he should be treated as the prime suspect in the matter,” he added.
