The two held on to each other in a tearful embrace, as the courtroom fell silent, gripped by the raw moment of reunion.
Kiyangia, who had vanished under unclear circumstances, walked into the court flanked by lawyer Kibe Mungai and senior counsel Martha Karua.
His sudden reappearance came just two days after Justice Chacha Mwita issued a stern directive that he be produced dead or alive, following growing public concern and pressure from his family.
Earlier on Thursday, family lawyer Wahome Thuku confirmed that Kiyangia had contacted a relative on Tuesday evening.
In that call, he assured them that he was alive and in good health, but had gone into hiding out of fear for his life after learning that officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were looking for him.
“Ndiangui indicated to the family member that he had hidden temporarily for fear of his life upon learning that DCI officers were looking for him over unknown criminal allegations,” Thuku said.
Thuku also said Kiyangia is ready to face the authorities, but only under the assurance that his life will be protected.
“He is ready and willing to present himself to the DCI and to be presented before any court of law when his safety and security are guaranteed,” he added.
The DCI is yet to make public any details regarding the reasons they were pursuing Kiyangia. Meanwhile, his family continues to call for transparency and protection as he prepares to cooperate with the law.
