Kindiki is on Thursday expected to tour Eldas Constituency in Wajir County to launch the newly created Eldas South Sub County.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has established new administrative units in 31 counties to improve the coordination of government services.

The new units were announced in a special gazette notice dated Friday 14, 2024.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 14(1) of the National Government Coordination Act, 2013, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration establishes the following Administrative Units as service delivery co-ordination units,” read the notice.

The created units are run by National Administration officers who include the Regional Commissioner, County Commissioners, Sub County Commissioners, Assistant County Commissioners, Chiefs and their assistants.

The National Administration is key in delivering the government agenda in the regions while the Regional Commissioners usually chair security meetings and other national administration issues.

National cohesion

The Ministry of Interior and National Administration aims to maintain a credible national integrated information system, promote national cohesion, facilitate justice administration and provide correctional services for Kenya's economic development.

Kindiki is on Thursday expected to tour Eldas Constituency in Wajir County to launch the newly created Eldas South sub-county.

During a tour of Lamu County on Tuesday, the CS said the government will continue with the establishment of additional security facilities and conduct a constant review of existing operational capabilities as well as the generation of durable solutions to complex security threats across the country.

Last year during the operationalisation of Kotulo sub-county in Wajir County, Kindiki urged citizens to work with the security officers and resist attempts by terror groups to radicalise the youth into violent extremism.

The CS oversaw the commissioning of the Kotulo sub-county headquarters and installed the first Deputy County Commissioner Farah Hassan Mohamed.

The sub-county was created in March 2022 and covers approximately 6,594 square kilometres.

The operationalised sub-county with two Divisions, 12 Locations and 19 Sub-Locations has a population of 28,167 people according to the 2019 National Housing and Population Census.
