General Kahariri warns against corruption in KDF recruitment

The Kenya Defence Forces will begin the second phase of its nationwide recruitment on October 13, with Chief of Defence Forces General Charles Kahariri urging officers to uphold integrity and use technology to ensure a fair, transparent process.

Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Charles Kahariri has directed recruitment officers to ensure a strictly merit-based process as the nationwide Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment enters its second phase next week.

The exercise will be conducted across all counties from October 13 to October 25.

Speaking during a briefing session at the Defence Headquarters in Nairobi, General Kahariri reminded officers that public trust in the military depends on transparency and fairness. He warned that anyone found engaging in malpractice will face immediate and severe disciplinary action.

"The reputation of the KDF has been built over decades of discipline and service to the nation. This exercise must reflect our core values of integrity, patriotism, and excellence. Technology is now at the heart of our recruitment process, and it is our duty to ensure it is used effectively to eliminate human interference and corruption," he said.

Phase one

Phase one of the exercise involved online registration through the KDF website, a process that closes on Sunday.

Applicants who registered will proceed to the second phase of physical recruitment at their respective sub-counties. This stage will utilise digital data management systems to track progress in real time, ensuring transparency and uniformity across all stations.

General Kahariri noted that incorporating technology in the recruitment process will strengthen verification, prevent fraud, and maintain the high standards expected of new KDF recruits.

He was accompanied by Lieutenant General David Ketter, Commander of the Kenya Army, and Major General Edward Rugendo, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces in charge of Personnel and Logistics.
