The move is aimed at ensuring the safety of participants and the smooth conduct of the marathon, which attracts thousands of local and international runners every year.
"Motorists are advised to use Mombasa Road (A8) from Ole Sereni Interchange, through Uhuru Highway, and vice versa. All road users are further advised to follow the traffic signs and guidance as directed by traffic marshals and the police," said KeNHA in a notice.
Trailers and heavy vehicles are advised to use Waiyaki Way during the closure period.
Several diversion routes have been put in place to ease traffic flow across the city: vehicles travelling from Kikuyu to Dagoretti via the Southern Bypass will access Dagoretti through the bypass.
Motorists from Karen heading to Kikuyu will use the Southern Bypass and Dagoretti Road. Drivers from Karen Shopping Centre will use Langata Road to reach their destinations, while those from Langata Road near Galleria Mall heading to Kikuyu will also use Dagoretti Road.
For motorists travelling from Langata Road to Mombasa Road, the suggested route is through Uhuru Highway. Vehicles moving from Mombasa Road to Ole Sereni Interchange will access the route via Nextgen Mall, while those from Likoni Road to Mombasa Road are advised to use Enterprise Road.
Additional diversions include Waiyaki Way for traffic from Kikuyu to Mombasa Road, and either Waiyaki Way or Ngi’ong Road and Mbogathi Way for traffic from Dagoretti to Mombasa Road.
KeNHA further advised drivers from Lenana (Ngong Road) to Kikuyu to use Waiyaki Way via Naivasha Road or James Gichuru Road, and those travelling from Lenana to Mombasa Road to use Langata Road through Karen. Trailers and heavy vehicles should strictly use Waiyaki Way to avoid congestion along the bypass.
