NCA halts construction at Peponi Road high‑rise in Westlands after structural failure
The development, which is under construction and designed to include three basement levels and 13 suspended floors, showed signs of structural distress, prompting an immediate halt to all works.
Construction at a high-rise residential development along Peponi Road in Nairobi’s Westlands has been suspended following suspected structural failure.
In a statement on December 17, the National Construction Authority (NCA) stated it has stepped in to secure the site and launch investigations into the alleged failure.

"In furtherance of the Authority's mandate and as aligned to Section 5 and Section 23 of the National Construction Authority Act 2011, a quality assurance team was immediately dispatched to the site for a compliance check," said the NCA.
The development, which is under construction and designed to include three basement levels and 13 suspended floors, showed signs of structural distress, prompting an immediate halt to all works.
"Upon confirmation of the incident, all construction works were immediately suspended, and the site was cordoned off to safeguard the public," said NCA.
The Authority added that “the area surrounding the site is currently under the control of the National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) and the National Police Service (NPS). As a precautionary safety measure, neighbouring occupants have been alerted and advised to temporarily vacate, pending further technical assessments."
The project was registered by NCA on September 27, 2024, under registration number 5312/415/109/9.
A Multi-Sectoral Agencies Coordinating Committee (MSACC) has been formed to conduct a detailed technical assessment to determine the structural integrity of the building and establish whether it can be safely salvaged or if controlled demolition will be required.
The committee includes representatives from the National Construction Authority, Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK), Board of Registration of Architects and Quantity Surveyors (BORAQS), National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Nairobi City County Government, National Youth Service (NYS), National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU), National Buildings Inspectorate (NBI), and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO).
The Authority emphasised that public safety remains the highest priority and that no further construction activities will be permitted on the site until investigations are complete and all recommendations are implemented.
The public has been advised to keep away from the affected area and to rely only on official communication from the National Construction Authority and other relevant government agencies.
"No further construction activities will be permitted on the site until the ongoing investigations are concluded and appropriate recommendations implemented," the Authority concluded.
