Police officer arrested for alleged defilement of minor under witness protection in Homa Bay

A male police officer has been arrested in connection with the alleged defilement of a 17-year-old girl at Rangwe police station in Homa Bay.

A male police officer has been arrested in connection with the alleged defilement of a 17-year-old girl at Rangwe police station in Homa Bay. The arrest occurred on Sunday after the girl reported the incident to the authorities. The suspect is accused of taking advantage of the darkness at the station to commit the sexual offense.

The victim, who was under police protection as a witness in a case against her father, also accused of defiling her at home, was placed in a female cell overnight due to the absence of a protection unit at the Rangwe police station.

According to a police report, the officer allegedly entered the cell under the cover of darkness and sexually assaulted the girl. The incident came to light when the victim reported the matter.

Homa Bay police commander Samson Kinne emphasized the significance of the medical examination report to determine whether there was penetration during the alleged defilement. The girl has been taken to Rangwe Hospital for a medical examination.

Children’s officer Joseph Otieno disclosed that they received a report indicating that the officer forcefully removed the girl’s pants after grabbing her neck before committing the alleged defilement. The case raises concerns about the safety and security measures within the police station, particularly when dealing with vulnerable individuals.

Investigations are ongoing, and the arrested police officer will face legal consequences if found guilty of the charges. The incident highlights the need for improved protocols to ensure the safety of individuals under police protection and to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
