Immigration office to remain open on Saturday for passport collection

Kindiki had told the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services to make sure that 49,500 passports that hadn't been picked up yet are delivered and collected within 14 days starting May 10, 2024

Kenyans will be able to collect their passports this weekend. This is after the Immigration Department on Thursday announced that it will remain open on Saturday, May 11, to allow collection of passports.

"To expedite the collection of passports, our Nairobi office will be open on Saturday, 11th May 2024 from 9 am to 1 pm," reads the statement.

As a result, the department called on Kenyans who have received notifications to use the extended period to pick up their passports.

This comes a few days after Interior CS Kithure Kindiki said that the government has set up ways to quickly get and send out the last 45,000 passports that are ready now.

These passports were part of a bigger group of over 720,000 passports, which took longer than expected to make.

Kindiki mentioned that everything is in order after getting two new printers to personalise passport information.

The CS mentioned that the government is working on making services better, especially for getting passports.

Kindiki had told the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services to make sure that 49,500 passports that hadn't been picked up yet are delivered and collected within 14 days starting May 10, 2024

He told the department to start a Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) to ensure the documents were sorted out within that time.

The CS mentioned that there were 27,000 passports not picked up in Nairobi, 3,000 in Mombasa, 4,200 in Nakuru, 4,500 in Embu, 3,900 in Eldoret, 3,900 in Kisumu, 3,000 in Kisii, and 400 in Kericho.

Kindiki said the government had enough resources to make passports easily.
