The body of constable Ahmed Mohamed Ibrahim was discovered behind a latrine block within the compound of Kenya Revenue Authority residence.

Police are investigating the death by suicide of a police constable at an office in Mandera border police post, Mandera County.

The body of constable Ahmed Mohamed Ibrahim was Wednesday afternoon discovered behind a latrine block within the compound of Kenya Revenue Authority residence.

It is suspected the officer shot himself using his AK47 rifle that was found next to the body.

Ahmed was among the officers attached to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) team to help with various enforcement issues in the area.

The motive of the incident is yet to be known.

The rifle had 29 bullets at that time. There was also a spent cartridge and two full magazines each loaded with 30 bullets.

This indicated he spent one cartridge in ending his life, police said.

It is not clear when the officer died. Police moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

A team of detectives was set up to investigate the suicide.
