“Nobody has offered any position to me or Wiper. That thing about the Attorney General is a mirage. I may be senior counsel which is okay, maybe that's the attraction but this guy has been Vice President of the Republic and has been a minister in many portfolios, do you expect me to serve Ruto as Attorney General? I think he's expecting too much,” he said.
He emphasised that his previous role as Vice President surpasses the position of Attorney General in terms of responsibility.
His sentiments follow Wednesday's nomination of several leaders in the Opposition to President William Ruto’s new 'broad-based' cabinet.
Raila men in Ruto cabinet
ODM Deputy Party Leaders Wycliffe Oparanya and Hassan Joho were among 10 people who were proposed by President Ruto to join his new cabinet.
The two former governors are among allies of Opposition leader leader Raila Odinga who has been publicly calling for national dialogue after consultation with the Head of State.
Other notable opposition members Ruto named to be part of his cabinet are Nominated MP and ODM Chairman John Mbadi who has been proposed to head the powerful Ministry of National Treasury and Economic Planning while National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi has been nominated to head the Energy and Petroleum docket.
While addressing the nation on Wednesday, Ruto defended his nominees noting that he was fulfilling the requests of Kenyans.
“I want to give the people of Kenya an assurance that the government listens to them. For the last month, I have led the government in engaging and listening to citizens from all walks of life as they express themselves in different forums. I have heard you and heard you clearly,” Ruto said.
On the other hand, all four nominees accepted their nominations, expressing gratitude to the President, and are in line to be vetted.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Narc Kenya's Martha Karua, DAP-K Eugene Wamalwa and Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni have openly stated that they will not work with Ruto.
