Former Isiolo Governor Godana Doyo to head committee on environmental complaints

By |

Godana's appointment took effect as of Friday 30, August 2024 and will run for three years unless revoked by the appointing authority.

Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has appointed former Isiolo Governor Godana Doyo to head the body that legally receives all complaints on the environment in the country.

Duale's appointment of Godana as the chairperson of the National Environmental Complaints Committee was made through the government gazette in a notice dated 28, August 2024.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 31(1) (a) of the Environmental Management and Coordination Act, the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry appoints Godana Doyo Adhi to be the Chairperson of the National Environmental Complaints Committee..." the notice reads.

Godana's appointment took effect as of Friday 30, August 2024 and will run for three years unless revoked by the appointing authority.

His appointment has seen Dr. Fancy Too's tenure at the position halted following the revocation of her appointment.

During their term, the committee conducted investigations in various sections of the country and provided suggestions to address environmental challenges specific to each location.

Godana is the pioneer county chief of Isiolo County. Last year, the current governor of the northern frontier devolved unit Abdi Guyo reached out to Godana and buried their political differences at a public event in Kinna.

Doyo stated during the event that he accepted the governor's olive branch as a sign of political maturity. Doyo, a pioneer governor, told the public that Governor Guyo approached him openly and without hesitation - a call he considered and eagerly accepted.

"Today, I stand tall before you to formally accept his call for this grand and public handshake for the sole purpose of unity and development"

Governor Abdi said his desire and aspirations are to continue bridging gaps that exist to cultivate peaceful co-existence and love among all communities living in Isiolo County under his leadership.

"I met with my brother Doyo and resolved to work together regardless of our political differences and the barbs we traded during the campaigns. That is behind us now hence our mutual agreement for the handshake. Let other leaders learn from this and act decisively as well"

He also promised to form a strong umbrella of community elders drawn from all Isiolo communities to foster peace, love, and unity.

During the last General Election, Doyo received 26,270 votes as an Independent candidate, compared to former Spring Valley/Matopeni ward MCA Abdi Ibrahim Guyo's 28,926 votes, becoming Kenya's first MCA to win the governorship.
