EACC nominates Abdi Ahmed Mohamud to replace outgoing CEO Twalib Mbarak
As required by law, the National Assembly will now receive Abdi’s nomination for vetting and approval.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has nominated its Deputy CEO, Abdi Ahmed Mohamud, as the next Chief Executive Officer.
EACC Chairperson David Oginde made this announcement on Friday following a rigorous recruitment process to identify a successor for outgoing CEO Twalib Mbarak, whose six-year tenure ended earlier this month.

“By the close of the application deadline on Monday, 7th October 2024, the Commission received 172 applications. Out of these, fourteen candidates were shortlisted, and the full list was published in the print media on 11th October 2024. The interviews for the shortlisted candidates were conducted from 19th to 21st November 2024,” Oginde revealed.
According to Oginde, Abdi stood out among the shortlisted candidates after an exhaustive evaluation process.
“Following a competitive recruitment process, Mr Abdi Ahmed Mohamud has been considered as the nominee for the position of Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission,” he said.
Abdi, who previously served as the EACC's Director of Investigation, has risen steadily within the commission to his current position as deputy CEO.
As required by law, the National Assembly will now receive Abdi’s nomination for vetting and approval.
The recruitment process saw a robust response from the public, with EACC encouraging submissions of any pertinent information regarding the suitability of the shortlisted candidates. Among the 14 candidates interviewed were notable names such as Stephen Ngowa, Doreen Muthaura, Jackson Mue, and Mohamed Mmaka.
Outgoing CEO Twalib, widely lauded for his leadership, expressed his confidence in the commission's continuity.
“I trust the process and I am optimistic that the EACC will continue to uphold integrity under the new leadership,” he said in a parting remark.
If confirmed, Abdi will face the critical task of spearheading the fight against corruption in Kenya.
