The Silicon Savannah Innovation Park is expected to play a pivotal role in making Kenya a global hub for technology and innovation while fostering inclusive economic growth.

President William Ruto on Monday inaugurated the University of Nairobi's Silicon Savannah Innovation Park, a Sh4.7 billion project aimed at advancing research and innovation in key areas such as artificial intelligence, green engineering, and advanced manufacturing.

The launch ceremony was held at State House, Nairobi. The park, part of a broader initiative known as the "Big 5" projects to transform the university, has been funded by the Government of France.

It seeks to position Kenya as a leader in the global technology and innovation landscape.

In his address, President Ruto highlighted the project’s significance in shaping Kenya's future, particularly for the youth. He called on them to embrace the opportunities being created by such initiatives.

"I have a message for the youth of Kenya: Your government is shaping the future, working for you and providing opportunities for you to learn, work, create and innovate a way forward for yourself and Kenya. The Silicon Savannah Innovation Park is your platform to define the future of Keyynya's digital economy," he said.

The president highlighted Kenya's commitment to leading the 5th Industrial Revolution, describing the innovation park as more than just infrastructure.

"The Silicon Savannah Innovation Park is more than an infrastructure project; it is an investment in our people, our future, and our global standing. Our message is clear: Kenya will not merely participate in the 5th Industrial Revolution; we will lead it. Let us seize this defining moment to turn our vision into a legacy of inclusive transformation that endures for generations," he said.

"This transformative initiative aligns with the government's digital jobs agenda to combat unemployment, equip our youth with the right skills and, therefore, drive inclusive economic growth."

He also linked the project to Kenya’s Vision 2030 and Africa’s Agenda 2063, noting its potential to transform the nation's economic landscape.

"Our youth represent Africa's most valuable resource, a boundless reservoir of energy, creativity, and ambition. This project is not just about creating jobs; it is about reshaping Kenya's economic DNA," Ruto added.

The Silicon Savannah Innovation Park is expected to play a pivotal role in making Kenya a global hub for technology and innovation while fostering inclusive economic growth.
