Interior PS Raymond Omollo on Tuesday cautioned motorists of possible road closures and restrictions in the face of the heavy downpour that is causing havoc across the country.

Speaking at Lunyofu Primary School in Busia County, he urged the public to adhere to prescribed safety measures so that they can save lives and property.

"While the rains are expected to subside soon, we must remain vigilant and adhere to government safety directives. These include avoiding hazardous zones like dams, roads, and bridges deemed unsafe and following evacuation notices," he said.

Omollo was in the region to oversee the distribution of essential supplies to 500 out of the 3,000 displaced households in the county. The supplies included rice, beans, blankets, and medical kits.

Later in Kisumu, the PS visited the Ogenya Displaced Persons Camp, which is currently sheltering 1,973 displaced households.

While there, he inspected ongoing health surveillance initiatives run by the Ministry of Health to prevent waterborne and vector-borne disease outbreaks.

Additionally,  Omollo emphasised the importance of long-term resilience strategies in combatting floods.

"Tree planting is vital for securing our environment, mitigating climate change effects, and addressing food security challenges," he said.
