Nairobi brace yourself: More rain on the horizon, stay warm, stay dry

By |

Following yesterday's warning from the Kenya Meteorological Department, Nairobi residents brace yourselves for a rainy weekend.

Following yesterday's warning from the Kenya Meteorological Department, Nairobi residents brace yourselves for a rainy weekend. Buckle up for isolated storms and potentially heavy rainfall, particularly in the east of the Rift Valley, encompassing Nairobi and the surrounding highlands. Expect some precipitation in the south of the Rift Valley, parts of the coast, and the southeastern lowlands. Isiolo and Samburu counties can anticipate rain from Friday to Monday.

Remember last week's deluge? The Nairobi County government was forced to deploy emergency teams to Githogoro and Mukuru to address the havoc caused by the downpours. With these fresh warnings, it's time to be proactive and prioritize both safety and comfort.

Staying Warm in the Wet:

Layer Up: Embrace the art of layering! Start with a moisture-wicking base layer to draw away sweat, followed by insulating layers like sweaters or fleece. Top it off with a waterproof and windproof outer shell to keep you dry. Remember, it's better to layer and adjust than get stuck shivering in one thick top.

Cozy Accessories: Don't neglect the power of accessories! Invest in a warm hat, gloves, and a scarf to shield your extremities from the chills. Wool socks are an absolute must, especially if you're venturing outdoors.

Hot Beverages: Sip on soothing hot tea, coffee, or even hot chocolate. Warm drinks not only offer a comforting hug from the inside out, but also provide a temporary energy boost.

Healthy Soups & Stews: Include hot, hearty soups and stews in your meals. These will not only warm you up, but also provide essential nutrients to keep your immune system in good shape during the damp weather.

Keep Active: Exercise, even gentle stretching or indoor workouts, can generate internal heat and improve circulation. This helps fight off the chills and boost your mood.

By following these tips and staying informed about the KMD's updates, you can navigate the rainy weekend with ease and comfort. Remember, while the heavens open up, keep your spirits high and your body temperature up! So, grab your umbrella, layer up, and embrace the cozy vibes of a rainy Nairobi.
