Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo dismisses DPP arrest order as politically motivated

Governor Guyo reminded the public that the Kiambu Law Courts had already intervened with an anticipatory order on August 27, restraining the ODPP and the DCI from arresting or harassing him.

Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has strongly pushed back against an arrest directive issued by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), terming the accusations levelled against him false, politically motivated and aimed at silencing his leadership.

On Friday, September 5, the ODPP instructed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to apprehend Guyo together with seven others over claims of kidnapping with intent to cause harm and robbery with violence.

According to the prosecution, the directive followed a review of a file initially handled by the DCI Kiyumbi office, later forwarded to the Machakos County ODPP office, and eventually referred to Nairobi due to public interest concerns.

The ODPP indicated that the case stems from an incident involving former Isiolo County Chief Officer of Health Abdirahaman Mohamed and 15 Members of the County Assembly aligned to the Governor’s impeachment team who were at Outbark Hotel in Maanzoni, Machakos County, on the day in question.

Guyo, however, dismissed the directive as a scheme to damage his image, insisting he has never been associated with criminal activity.

“These allegations are baseless, politically motivated, and clearly intended to intimidate and silence us,” he said.

The governor recounted his personal journey, stressing that his record has always been clean.

“I firmly state that throughout my life, both before and during my time in politics, I have never been arrested nor associated with any criminal activity,” he declared, adding that his service has been guided by respect for the law and dedication to his people.

Guyo reminded the public that the Kiambu Law Courts had already intervened with an anticipatory order on August 27, restraining the ODPP and the DCI from arresting or harassing him and his colleagues until the case is heard and resolved.

He urged his supporters not to be swayed by the developments. “I therefore call upon my supporters and the people of Isiolo to remain calm and steadfast,” the county boss appealed.

Despite the directive, Guyo maintained that he focused on fulfilling his duties as governor.

“I remain fully committed to discharging my mandate as your Governor, upholding justice and truth, and safeguarding the will of the people. No smear campaign will derail our collective progress,” he said.
