The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a forecast indicating that most parts of the country will experience warm, dry weather from September 12 to 16, while rainfall will affect certain highland and Rift Valley areas.

Residents are advised to expect sunny days interspersed with localised showers, especially in elevated regions and near the Lake Victoria Basin.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, which include Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, and Murang’a, temperatures are expected to vary between 6°C and 30°C.

“Most parts of the country are likely to be sunny and dry. However, rainfall is expected in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley,” the notice states.

Counties in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, such as Kisumu, Kakamega, Bungoma, Nakuru, and Kericho, are likely to see scattered rain in the mornings, followed by afternoon showers and thunderstorms in several areas. Daytime temperatures may reach around 30°C, with lows of about 9°C.

North-western counties, including Turkana and Samburu, are expected to have generally sunny conditions, although brief showers could occur in a few locations.

Temperatures will range from 7°C at night to highs of 36°C during the day.

North-eastern counties, Marsabit, Wajir, Mandera, Garissa, and Isiolo will experience hot and dry conditions, with daytime temperatures climbing to 38°C and nights cooling to around 14°C.

In the South-eastern lowlands, including Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, and Kajiado, the weather will remain mostly sunny, with temperatures between 9°C and 32°C.

Coastal areas such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale will enjoy sunny days and partly cloudy nights, with highs reaching 32°C and lows of 21°C.

The department has also issued warnings for strong southerly to south-easterly winds exceeding 25 knots in coastal regions, the south-eastern lowlands, and parts of northern Kenya.

Citizens are urged to follow daily county-specific forecasts and prepare for occasional showers and gusty winds in affected areas.
