Uhuru Kenyatta breaks silence on post-election turmoil, threats
Uhuru Kenyatta revealed that in the aftermath of the elections, he, his family, and political allies were subjected to threats from unnamed sources.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has opened up about the frustrations he and his allies faced after William Ruto became president.
Speaking at the Jubilee Party delegates meeting in Nairobi on Friday, Kenyatta broke his silence to describe the turbulent period following the closely contested 2022 general election, which saw President Ruto declared the winner.

Kenyatta revealed that in the aftermath of the elections, he, his family, and political allies were subjected to threats from unnamed sources.
"Three years ago, at the end of the hotly contested general elections, we faced an atmosphere of hostility not only to our party but also to me, members of my family and members of my administration," said Kenyatta.
Despite the hostile environment, he said he remained committed to rebuilding and renewing the Jubilee Party by appointing new leadership.
"I stood at this same venue, ready to begin a process that should have been normal in any mature democracy. A process of rejuvenating our party and infusing it with new leadership."
Uhuru’s remarks at the meeting are expected to intensify political tensions, especially among President Ruto’s supporters, who have previously accused the former president of sabotage.
Former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who is touted as the party's presidential candidate for the 2027 election, graced the event among other Jubilee bigwigs.
