EPRA shuts 12 filling stations for selling adulterated and export-bound fuel

The affected outlets include Riva Petroleum Bahati Service Station in Nakuru, Kambero Filling Station in Kisumu, King Size Filling Station in Machakos, Dala Energy Filling Station in Makueni, and Sasa Filling Station in Bungoma.

Twelve fuel stations across Kenya have been shut down for selling adulterated or export-bound motor fuels in the local market, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has confirmed.

The closures follow inspections carried out between July and September 2025, aimed at protecting consumers and ensuring fuel quality standards are upheld.

EPRA in a notice on Tuesday said it conducted 6,090 tests at 1,315 petroleum outlets across the country, finding 1,303 stations, or 99.09 per cent, compliant.

However, 12 stations failed the tests and were ordered to cease operations immediately.

The affected outlets include Riva Petroleum Bahati Service Station in Nakuru, Kambero Filling Station in Kisumu, King Size Filling Station in Machakos, Dala Energy Filling Station in Makueni, and Sasa Filling Station in Bungoma.

Others include Noble Energy Filling Station in Vihiga, Belstar Filling Station in Nyandarua, George Kamau Filling Station in Kwale, Vipringo Service Station in Kilifi, Midtown Filling Station in Meru, and Gateway Inn Filling Station in Mombasa.

Violations ranged from selling diesel with high sulphur content to offering fuel mixed with kerosene or products meant for export.

EPRA noted that Gateway Inn and Vipringo Service Stations had previously been cited for similar offences, making them repeat offenders.

The authority has urged the public to report any suspected cases of fuel adulteration through its hotline, USSD code *363#, or via SMS to 40850.

EPRA said such measures are key to protecting motorists and maintaining confidence in the country’s fuel supply.
