KRA sets 30-day deadline for clearing goods at Nairobi depot

The authority has set the public auction to run online from November 10 to 14, 2025, allowing buyers to bid for the items through KRA’s official portal.
Traders with cargo lingering at Nairobi’s Inland Container Depot have been given a strict 30-day deadline by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to remove their goods, with warnings that unclaimed items will be auctioned if not collected in time.
In a notice published in the Kenya Gazette, KRA informed importers and consignees that all goods remaining at the depot beyond the 30-day window will be considered abandoned.

The authority has set the public auction to run online from November 10 to 14, 2025, allowing buyers to bid for the items through KRA’s official portal.
“Pursuant to the provisions of Section 42 of the East African Community Customs Management Act 2004 as amended (EACCMA 2004), notice is given that unless the under-mentioned goods are entered and removed from the custody of the Customs Warehouse Keeper, Inland Container Depot, Nairobi, within thirty (30) days of this notice,” the notice stated.
KRA added that traders and prospective buyers can view the goods in person on November 6 and 7, 2025, during working hours at the specified depot locations.
The items set for auction are varied and include chocolate boxes, cigarettes, wall panels, molasses, padlocks, lubricants, wines, clothing, thermal machines, spare parts, and bed sheets.
They are packed in containers ranging from 20 to 40 feet and are currently stored at the Nairobi Inland Container Depot.
George Aduwi, Chief Manager at the Nairobi Inland Container Depot, said that some of the goods have remained in storage since April this year.
He explained that delays often arise when importers or consignees fail to pay the required customs duties or taxes, causing their goods to remain in custody until the fees are settled.
Aduwi also noted that logistical challenges, such as limited truck availability or transport delays, can contribute to cargo overstaying at the depot, complicating clearance for importers.
