Police launch manhunt after rifles stolen in armoury break-in at Thika patrol base
The armoury breakage and theft of the arms were discovered around 4:00 am when a police officer on patrol duties returned to the station after checking the cause of some dogs barking in a nearby area.
Police are investigating and searching for two loaded rifles that were allegedly stolen from Maguguni Patrol base in Thika in the wee hours of Wednesday morning in mysterious circumstances.
According to a police report, OB 02/29/10/2025, the armoury breakage and theft of the arms were discovered around 4:00 am when a police officer on patrol duties returned to the station after checking the cause of some dogs barking in a nearby area.

"It was reported by the night report office personnel that today, at around 0400 hours, he patrolled the patrol base compound and also the area bordering A.I.P.C.A. church, as dogs were barking and running towards that side," the report said.
On coming back to the report office, the officer noticed that one iron sheet of the armoury had been removed. He then went to the armoury and found that the padlock of the door was broken.
"When he went inside, he found the armoury steel box opened and noticed that the following were missing: One AK-47 rifle with two fully loaded magazines of special 30 rounds each to make a total of 60 rounds, one G3 rifle with one fully loaded magazine of 20 rounds, and also two empty magazines and 96 rounds," the report added.
He reported the incident to his seniors, who assessed the scene at Maguguni patrol base and confirmed the same, after which a search began for the stolen arms and ammunition.
The case comes days after police in Kisumu County arrested four suspects for stealing a firearm from a General Service Unit (GSU) officer during the burial of former Deputy Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
The firearm was recovered on October 25, 2025, in the Mbeme area of Kisumu East, where it was found hidden in the roof of one of the four suspects.
