South Sudan and Sudan leaders pledge joint peace efforts

Ramadan Mohamed Goc, South Sudan's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, reiterated the country's commitment to assisting Sudan's peace process.

South Sudan’s presidential adviser and Sudanese opposition leader convened in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, on March 27, 2024, to discuss strategies for ending the protracted conflict in Sudan.

Peter Mabior Riiny Lual, a member of South Sudan's transitional national legislative assembly and secretary general of the South Sudan Patriotic Movement, confirmed the meeting between Dr Costello Garang, Chairman of the South Sudan Patriotic Movement, and Dr Ali El-Haj Adam, Chairman of the People’s Congress Party.

Lual emphasised that the discussions were centred on addressing mutual concerns and fostering peace in both nations.

“Dr. Costello Garang, Chairman of the South Sudan Patriotic Movement, met with Dr. Ali El-Haj Adam, Chairman of the People's Congress Party, to discuss current issues facing their countries on March 27, 2024,” Lual stated.

Ramadan Mohamed Goc, South Sudan's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, reiterated the country's commitment to assisting Sudan's peace process.

Goc highlighted President Salva Kiir's dedication to peace efforts, citing the appointment of a special envoy by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

Goc emphasised, “Efforts to secure a lasting peace in Sudan are continuing. Peace is a process. His Excellency the President is continuing with the efforts, working through the secretariat of IGAD, a regional grouping of eight member countries, including Sudan
