Dramatic scenes unfolded in Parliament on Tuesday as legislators staged a walkout, protesting the State's failure to release funds earmarked for the NG-CDF. The Members of Parliament prematurely ended a Plenary session, breaking into chants of 'solidarity forever' and 'No CDF, No Parliament!'
While acknowledging the delay in fund disbursement due to the prevailing liquidity challenges faced by the nation, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung'u had previously cited these financial constraints as the primary cause.
President Ruto, however, reiterated the government's commitment to prioritize the disbursement of the NG-CDF, especially to ensure that students relying on these funds for bursaries are not adversely affected.
The president conveyed this commitment during the commemoration of the Kikuyu Constituency Education Foundation's ten-year milestone and the inauguration of the foundation's Endowment fund.
Established under the patronage of Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa, the KICE Foundation aims to support financially disadvantaged and marginalised students in accessing quality education.
President Ruto underscored the crucial role played by the NG-CDF in assisting underprivileged students, pledging to expedite its allocation to prevent any adverse impact on the beneficiaries. He reiterated the government's focus on safeguarding the educational pursuits of deserving students and ensuring equitable access to resources.
