CS Murkomen orders overdue National Youth Council elections to be held by end of year

Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has instructed that the overdue National Youth Council elections, which have been stalled since 2012, be completed by year-end.
The Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Kipchumba Murkomen, has directed that the long-overdue National Youth Council (NYC) elections be held by the end of this year. The elections, which were last conducted in 2012, are mandated by the NYC Act to occur every three years, making the current delay a significant breach of the law.
In a meeting today with the NYC team led by Acting CEO Margaret Kiogora, CS Murkomen stressed the importance of adhering to the NYC Act, noting that the continued delay has been detrimental to the youth's role in the country's development. "The prolonged delay not only breaches the law but also deprives the youth of their rightful voice in the national discourse and agenda," Murkomen stated.

He further emphasized that it is crucial for the Council to resume its proper function by holding transparent and fair elections. "It is critical that we restore the Council's role by holding transparent elections that allow the youth to reclaim their rightful place in shaping our nation's future," he added.
The NYC team updated the CS on various strategies being implemented to rejuvenate the Council, ensuring that it effectively fulfills its mandate. These efforts aim to strengthen youth participation in social, economic, and political development, as envisioned in the NYC's founding principles.
CS Murkomen's directive signals a renewed focus on youth empowerment, with the upcoming elections seen as a vital step in ensuring that young people have a meaningful impact on the country's future.
