The Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, speaking at the County Government end-year event in Lodwar, assured the business community of efforts to establish an advantageous business setting, fostering fair trade practices.

In a strong show of solidarity, governors from Northern regions have joined forces to advocate for harmonious coexistence amidst their diverse communities.

Acknowledging the challenges posed by fragmentation, these leaders stressed a shared vision rooted in unity, understanding, and respect.

Their joint appeal emphasised the critical need to bridge divides, transcend cultural boundaries, and cultivate an environment where differences serve as a source of strength rather than division.

The Marsabit County residents have been urged to be at the forefront of fostering peace within the community.

In his New Year Message, Governor Mohamud Ali stressed his resonant call for peace and unity echoed across the region. His message commemorated the remarkable transformation witnessed in the past year.

Marsabit, long plagued by seemingly insurmountable conflicts, experienced a notable shift in 2023, fostering unprecedented harmony and collaboration.

Portraying the upcoming year as an unwritten chapter in a grand narrative, Governor Ali urged the community to shape a future steeped in peace collectively.

While advocating unity, the Governor cautioned against divisive forces, urging vigilance and a steadfast refusal to succumb to ethnic or political divisions.

Instead, he celebrated Marsabit's diverse tapestry, promoting community tolerance and understanding.

“Let us continue to shun violence and maintain maximum vigilance against all efforts, from within or without, to disturb our peace and security especially. Let us refuse to be divided along ethnic or political lines but celebrate the unique diversity that we are blessed with and promote tolerance and understanding amongst all Marsabit communities,” he said.

The Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai, speaking at the County Government end-year event in Lodwar, assured the business community of efforts to establish an advantageous business setting, fostering fair trade practices.

He emphasised his commitment to collaborate with all stakeholders, regardless of tribe or race, to boost businesses in Turkana.

Lomorukai highlighted his administration's dedication to enhancing residents' quality of life through a 9-point agenda focusing on sustainable development.

He outlined plans for the new year, prioritising key sectors to create socio-economic impact, including improving access to water, education, peace, food security, economic growth, and healthcare.

Acknowledging the County Assembly's support, the Governor announced the allocation of Sh60 million development funds to each ward in the upcoming financial year.

He challenged the Turkana Professional Association to be non-partisan and stressed a fair and inclusive process for bursaries and scholarships, aiming for digitised distribution for efficiency.

Further stressing unity among communities, particularly the Ateker, Lomorukai highlighted collaboration with the National Government for transformative projects in Turkana.

Other leaders, including Moroto Municipality Mayor Mohamed Ismael and Woman Representative Cecilia Ngitit, echoed calls for unity and collaboration among various groups to improve neglected communities.

Additionally, MCAs defended their working relationship with the Governor, emphasising its positive impact. At the same time, other officials like Deputy County Secretary Dr. Albert Gamoe and County Executive for Public Service James Wangiros were present at the event, alongside various Chief Officers and Directors.
