MP Keynan to President Ruto: Help bring missing Wajir MCA back to his family

By |

Keynan reminded President Ruto of his government's commitment to eradicating abductions and ensuring the safety of all citizens.

Eldas Member of Parliament Adan Keynan has made an emotional appeal to President William Ruto, urging the government to intensify efforts to locate Wajir MCA Yusuf Hussein Ahmed who has been missing since September 2024.

Speaking at the Pastoralists Leadership Summit on Tuesday, Keynan reminded President Ruto of his government's commitment to eradicating abductions and ensuring the safety of all citizens.

"Your Excellency, you said in your government there will be no abductions. Allow me to say this to you as your follower and also as a person who believes in true leadership and constitutionalism," he said.

The Jubilee lawmaker went on to highlight Yusuf’s case. The MCA was abducted on September 13 while heading home to Nairobi.

"One of the elected MCAs who ought to have been here, who comes from my constituency, has been missing since September. Where he is, Your Excellency, save his life, and allow him to come back to his family," Kenyan said.

The disappearance of the MCA has drawn widespread attention and concern, especially after his alleged abduction.

Whereabouts unknown

In November 2024, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja addressed the ongoing investigation into Yusuf's disappearance.

Appearing before the National Assembly's Administration and Security Committee, Kanja confirmed that no arrests had been made, and the police had not yet determined the whereabouts of the missing MCA. He reassured the public that investigations were still active and that any information regarding the case would be highly valuable.

"So far, after the report was made to the police, we have been carrying out investigations, and this case remains active to date," Kanja said.

"We have not gotten additional information on the whereabouts of the honourable member of Wajir," he added.

The family of the missing MCA and other leaders have been vocal in their demand for action.

In October, the County Assemblies Forum threatened to shut down operations in all 47 county assemblies unless the government produces the missing MCA, whether alive or dead.

They issued a stern warning to authorities to take immediate action.

Adding to the uncertainty, a body initially believed to be that of Yusuf was discovered in Lake Yahud on October 20, but DNA tests later confirmed that it was not his.

Abductions

IG Kanja revealed that the police are still pursuing leads based on intelligence reports, but there is still no breakthrough.

According to Kanja, 57 abductions had been recorded in 2024, with 22 cases resolved, while 29 individuals remain missing. He reassured the public that the authorities are committed to bringing those responsible for abductions to justice.

"All these cases, we are on top of them. At the end of the day, whoever has committed any of these crimes will be brought to book. That is our mission and we are not going to relent on it," the IG said.

As the search for Yusuf continues, MP Keynan has urged President Ruto to ensure that the matter is treated with the urgency it deserves.

"Save his life and bring him back to his family," he said.
