Standard Media Group defends itself from misinformation campaign

In recent weeks, the media house has been attacked via sponsored hashtags, which they claim were spread by bots and media opponents.

The Standard Media Group has defended itself against a misinformation campaign that has been spreading online in recent weeks.

In a brief statement, the firm stated that the campaign's main purpose was to tarnish the name of their institution and the people who work there.

According to them, the onslaught began shortly after they reported Edward Kisiangani, the PS at the Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy.

"We warned Professor Kisiangani not to cut the hand that previously fed him. We fought for our rights. One of the main sources of revenue for media houses had been considerably reduced by his regulations.

The media house also mentioned that they underlined how important the media has been in furthering his education and career to the point where he has gained recognition.

In recent weeks, the media house has been attacked via sponsored hashtags, which they claim were spread by bots and media opponents.

"As much as the Standard Media Group is the current target; we have seen other media houses face the same harassment. We would not allow this and that is the reason we are pushing back.

The media outlet claimed in the editorial that the government owed them money and that starving them would not force them to comply. The best they could do was make good on their debt.

"These are individuals with families and you will not just kill their careers but disadvantage a whole generation. The Standard media house is the oldest media group and it is not about to close up"

The statement assured their investors that their shares are still being traded and that the media is the most trusted estate.

They urged Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithuri Kindiki and Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo to protect them from bullies and fake news propagandists.
