The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced that its grassroots elections, which were postponed in April due to flooding, will take place on November 27, 2024.
The party's National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) communicated the decision to its members on Monday, stating that elections will occur at polling units across all 47 counties.

“Pursuant to this resolution, the NECC wishes to announce that the grassroots elections will be conducted on 27 November 2024 in all polling Units/Centres across the Forty-Seven (47) Counties,” reads a notice issued by NECC chairperson Emily Awita.
The elections will see the selection of 30 party officials, with 10 representatives from each of the three committees at every polling unit: the Mainstream, Women League, and Youth League.
Awita elaborated on the positions that will be contested in the mainstream elections, which include Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Organising Secretary, Treasurer, Women Leader, Youth Leader, and three Committee Members.
In addition, the Women and Youth League elections will feature positions for Chairperson, Secretary, Organising Secretary and their deputies, Treasurer, and three Committee Members.
Emphasising inclusivity, the NECC noted that “persons with disabilities and minorities will be mainstreamed in these categories.”
Election method
ODM has mandated consensus or voting by a show of hands as the election method, allowing flexibility in how party members choose their representatives.
The Committee noted that voting will take place from 10 am to 4 pm on the designated day. In preparation, the NECC encouraged members to read and familiarise themselves with the guidelines for grassroots elections.
Awita also highlighted the collaborative role of County Election Coordinators, who will work closely with polling units to ensure smooth elections. Further, she reminded party members to verify their membership details via the dedicated USSD code 483036#.
The committee reassured members that the sub-branch, Branch, and County Coordinating Committee structure and membership will remain unchanged. It noted that additional roll-out details will be provided after the completion of polling unit elections.
ODM has urged members to engage actively and stay informed, adding that “To guarantee a credible process, we urge our party members to continuously engage the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) for any clarifications.”
The ODM previously postponed its grassroots elections in April, citing severe rainfall that caused significant disruption across various regions of the country.
