Raila Odinga’s bodyguard of over 30 years is dead

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party’s Director of Communications, Philip Etale, took to his Facebook page to mourn the loss of Odiwuor, describing him as a loyal friend who always stood by him.
"This is one man who stood by me at all cost. I have lost a friend. Big bro. Rest easy, George," Etale wrote.
Odiwuor had served as Raila Odinga’s personal bodyguard since 1994.
Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura also paid tribute to Odiwuor, describing him as a dedicated and fatherly figure.
Taking to X, he wrote: "Fare thee well George Oduor, long-serving bodyguard to Raila Odinga. Dispassionate, loyal, focused, and fatherly. Rest in Peace till we meet again."
Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir expressed his sorrow in a heartfelt condolence message, calling Odiwuor a cherished member of the community whose presence and warmth touched many lives.
"George was not just a friend to me personally, but a cherished member of our broader community whose presence and warmth touched the lives of many. He was a man of great integrity, quiet strength, and unwavering commitment to the values that bind us together as a people,” he said.
He noted that his passing is a deep loss, not only to his family and friends but to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
“In moments like these, words often fall short, but we take solace in the rich legacy he leaves behind: one of kindness, service, and enduring friendship. On behalf of the County Government of Mombasa, my family, and indeed from the depths of my own heart, I extend my deepest condolences to the family of George. May you find strength in the love he gave, comfort in the memories you shared, and peace in the knowledge that his spirit will continue to live on in all of us. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Abdulswamad said.
Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai also mourned Oduwuor as a mentor, highlighting his role beyond being just an aide to Raila.
"Rest in peace my brother. I will miss your wise counsel and guidance. You were more than an aide to Baba. You offered us brotherly advice and sought to mentor us," Alai said in a post on X.
