Ruth Odinga: Raila endured immense suffering for Kenya

Ruth Odinga said her brother’s entire life was dedicated to fighting for justice, freedom, and a better Kenya.

Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga delivered a deeply emotional farewell to her late brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, describing him as a man who endured immense suffering for Kenya and whose sacrifices were often overlooked.

Speaking during Raila’s final interment ceremony in Bondo, Siaya County, on Sunday, Ruth said her brother’s entire life was dedicated to fighting for justice, freedom, and a better Kenya.

She noted that despite the pain and struggles he went through, Raila never gave up on his dream for the nation.

“My brother, rest. You suffered for Kenya, but Kenya never saw that. Son of Odinga, you suffered for Kenya. You died fighting for Kenya,” Ruth said in an emotional tribute.

Ruth told mourners that her brother gave his life to serve the people of Kenya, remaining steadfast even when his efforts went unappreciated.

She said Raila’s courage and commitment to democracy came at great personal cost, but he never stopped believing in the country’s potential.

“He gave his all for this country, even when it meant losing his freedom, his peace, and at times his health. Today we lay him to rest, but his spirit and legacy will forever live in Kenya’s story,” she said.

Ruth said it was now time for her brother to rest after decades of endurance, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to Kenya.

She urged Kenyans to honour his memory by continuing his lifelong pursuit of justice, unity, and equality.
