Uhuru Kenyatta retained as Jubilee Party leader in fresh leadership shake-up

The Civil Division of the Milimani High Court allowed a consent filed by the party’s legal team and key respondents, effectively nullifying the IDRC decision that had invalidated the May 22, 2023, NDC.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta will remain at the helm of the Jubilee Party as its leader, in new changes that have restructured the party’s leadership.

In a gazette notice dated June 30, 2025, the Registrar of Political Parties announced the intended changes following a High Court ruling that validated decisions made during the party’s National Delegates Convention (NDC) in May 2023, overturning an earlier verdict by the Internal Disputes Resolution Committee (IDRC).

“In exercise of the power conferred by section 20(1)(c) of the Political Parties Act, the Registrar of Political Parties gives notice that Jubilee Party intends to make changes to the party officials,” reads the notice signed by Registrar Ann Nderitu.

In the updated list of officials, Uhuru retains his position as Party Leader. Beatrice Gambo has replaced Jimmy Angwenyi as Deputy Party Leader in charge of Strategy, while Kados Muiruri takes over the Operations docket from Kinoti Gatobu. Joseph Manje now serves as Deputy Party Leader for Outreach, replacing Naomi Shabaan.

Peter Mositet vacated the position of Deputy Party Leader (Programmes), which remains unfilled in the new lineup.

Saitoti Torome has taken over as National Chairperson, replacing Nelson Dzuya. David Murathe retains his position as Deputy National Chairperson.

Jeremiah Kioni also stays on as Secretary General, but the role of Deputy Secretary General has shifted from Joshua Kutuny to Yassin Noor. Kagwe Gichohi continues as National Treasurer, though the Deputy Treasurer position formerly held by Ruweida Mohamed is currently vacant.

Abdulkadir Haji remains National Organizing Secretary, while Pauline Njoroge has been named Deputy Organizing Secretary, replacing Mutava Musyimi.

Kanini Kega holds his position as National Director of Elections, and Rachael Nyamai has been named Deputy Director of Elections.

Maison Leshomo now chairs the Women's League, which previously had no leader listed. In the Youth League, Angel Mbuthia has succeeded Mulembe Mundalo as National Chairperson. Wanja Maina retains her position as Chairperson of the Persons with Disabilities League.

The Council of Elders continues under Njenga Mungai, while the Business Council, formerly chaired by Joel Kibe, is now without a leader.

Amina Udgoon Siyad has replaced Adam Keynan as the party’s Parliamentary Secretary. The position of Executive Director, previously held by Wambui Gichuru, is now vacant.

Nderitu has urged members of the public and concerned stakeholders to submit any objections or representations regarding the intended changes in the Jubilee Party’s leadership within seven days.

“A person with any representations concerning the intended changes by the Jubilee Party shall, within seven (7) days from the date of this publication, make their written submissions to the Registrar of Political Parties,” reads the notice.

At the same time, the Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) has announced its intention to change its name to Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF).

Nderitu noted that the proposed change is being made in accordance with Section 20(1)(d) of the Political Parties Act.

The notice invites any person with written submissions concerning the intended name change to submit them to the Registrar within seven days from the date of publication.
