Ruto, Raila to begin unity tour in Nyanza after political pact

The leaders are set to officially hand over Phase 1 of the Lapfund Makasembo Affordable Housing Project in Kisumu on Saturday, May 31.

President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga will embark on their first joint tour of the Nyanza region this weekend, following their landmark political partnership signed on March 7.

The leaders are set to officially hand over Phase 1 of the Lapfund Makasembo Affordable Housing Project in Kisumu on Saturday, May 31.

The tour will also see them addressing residents of Kisumu and making several stopovers, demonstrating a shared vision for progress and inclusion.

Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong’o confirmed the visit during a meeting with Lapfund CEO Bernard Mbogoh, describing the joint tour as a strong sign of bipartisan cooperation aimed at delivering tangible development to the people.

“The presence of President Ruto and Raila Odinga at this handover is a powerful sign of unity and shared purpose in improving the lives of our people,” Nyong’o said on Tuesday.

The Makasembo Affordable Housing Project has reached a significant milestone with the completion of 910 housing units in its first phase.

The event will also include the groundbreaking of Phase 3, further reinforcing ongoing government efforts to provide quality, affordable housing in Kisumu.

This project is expected to greatly improve living standards while supporting local economic growth.

Before converging in Kisumu, the two leaders will hold separate engagements in Migori and Homa Bay counties.

On Thursday, Ruto will meet grassroots leaders at Sony Sugar Guest House in Awendo, Migori, while Raila will attend the Blue Economy Conference at the Homa Bay Lake Front as the chief guest speaker.

They will reunite at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay to celebrate Madaraka Day.

Governor Nyong’o praised the project’s progress and highlighted its benefits for the community.

“I’m particularly excited that the project includes a kindergarten and daycare centre to support working parents and nurture our young learners,” he said.

The Makasembo development spans 11.6 acres and, once fully complete, will feature 1,870 housing units, 1,754 parking slots, preschools, solar lighting, green spaces, and other amenities that promote sustainable urban living.
