Musk unveils Tesla robots performing household chores in viral demo

The demonstration, which has already amassed millions of views across platforms, marks a significant leap in Tesla’s robotics ambitions.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has once again captured global attention after releasing a video on May 21 showing the company’s humanoid robots, dubbed Optimus, performing a series of household chores without any human assistance.

Shared under the caption “The biggest product ever,” the viral footage showcases Optimus robots folding clothes, organising living spaces, and executing domestic tasks like vacuuming, opening a microwave, and even cooking, with remarkable precision and fluidity.

The demonstration, which has already amassed millions of views across platforms, marks a significant leap in Tesla’s robotics ambitions.

According to Musk, these robots are designed to “transform everyday living” by handling time-consuming chores, enabling people to focus on more creative or purposeful activities.

The video suggests that Optimus is now capable of identifying, manipulating, and folding soft fabrics, one of the more difficult tasks for machines due to irregular shapes and textures.

Tesla first introduced the concept of Optimus in 2021, positioning it as a general-purpose humanoid robot intended to take on repetitive or dangerous tasks.

The latest update, however, shifts the narrative from industrial use to in-home personal assistance, a move that could redefine how society approaches automation.

“This is not science fiction anymore,” Musk said during a previous interview. “This is the future of labour in the home, and it’s coming sooner than most people think.”

The viral demo has sparked a wide range of reactions from the public. One user joked, “Need one ASAP so my wife doesn’t need to scream at me to bring out the trash”, a sentiment echoed by many who saw the robot as a potential saviour for domestic assistants.

Others, however, expressed concern about the growing reliance on machines.

“They’re going to replace us even in our own homes,” one user warned, highlighting fears that increased automation may eventually erode basic human roles in family life.

Tesla has not released an official timeline for commercial availability, but Musk hinted that mass production and public sales may begin “within the next few years,” subject to further development and regulatory approval.

So for now, the video serves as a bold preview of what fully automated homes might look like, a world where cooking, cleaning, and even laundry are managed by intelligent machines, operating silently in the background.

Would you get one for your home?
