Somalia President Hassan Sheikh in Eritrea for 2-day working tour
Presidents Hassah and Isaias are expected to discuss regional issues such as security and the Red Sea access deal between Ethiopia and Somaliland.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud began a two-day working tour of Eritrea on Sunday at the invitation of his counterpart, Isaias Afwerki.
Isaias welcomes Hassan at the Asmara International Airport for a visit expected to discuss the nations' bilateral relations and regional issues such as security and the Red Sea access deal between Ethiopia and Somaliland.

The January 1, 2024, Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has resulted in tensions between Hassan and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, and is seen as a threat to regional peace and stability.

Relations between Somalia and Eritrea have thawed, particularly due to Abiy's repeated statements that landlocked Ethiopia must secure a seaport.
Thus far, Somalia has appointed a new ambassador to Eritrea. Omar Idris presented his credentials to President Isaias in Asmara on November 17, 2023, marking the first resident ambassador to represent Somalia in Eritrea.
In January 2024, Hassan visited Eritrea, discussing bilateral relations, regional collaboration, and global issues with Isaias. They agreed to work closely together and approach challenges with positivity and patience.
