Firefighters successfully extinguished a massive blaze that erupted in Hamarweyne Market, Mogadishu's second-largest market, last night after an extended battle. The fire, originating in the Marwaz Mosque area, swiftly spread to the Gold and meat sections, causing extensive damage to hundreds of shops and retail outlets.

Bukhari, the owner of Xul Style, a prominent women's clothing shop, told the media that the fire had  gutted goods valued at $50,000, leaving nothing salvageable.

Following his visit to the ravaged market, Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of Banadir region, Yusuf Hussein Jim'ale, announced the formation of a committee to investigate the fire's cause and assess the overall damage.

Addressing the crowd at the market, Mayor Yusuf pledged that the committee would thoroughly investigate and evaluate the substantial losses resulting from the fire. Responding to claims of an electrical fault as the cause, he asserted that power companies would be held accountable, with decisive action taken against those found culpable.
