FKF penalises five clubs for rule violations

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has issued sanctions to five clubs for breaching competition rules, following a Thursday meeting by the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee.

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has sanctioned five clubs for breaching competition rules. The sanctions were announced following a meeting held by the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee on Thursday.

The affected clubs include two National Super League (NSL) teams and three FKF Division One sides.

Second-tier side 3K FC received the heaviest punishment, losing two points and two goals from their current tally. The Embu-based club was found guilty of hooliganism, pitch invasion, and attacking match officials during their 1-0 loss to Kibera Black Stars at Moi Stadium in Embu on Saturday.

The club narrowly avoided a monetary fine but was penalised under Rule 9.6.3 of the FKF rulebook, which stipulates sanctions for hooliganism and violence. This rule states:

"If during game time, acts of hooliganism and violence are committed but the match is completed, the results of the match will be upheld. For a league format competition, the defaulting club, as found guilty by the FKF Disciplinary Committee, will lose two (2) points and two (2) goals from those already accumulated. For a knock-out format, the defaulting club will be fined at least Sh100,000 or excluded from the competition in the following season."

The committee upheld the match result and ruled that 3K FC must cover the cost of repairs or other damages identified in a forthcoming independent report by Moi Stadium management. Following the decision, Kibera Black Stars remain second on the standings with 28 points, trailing leaders APS Bomet by one point.

Although the sanctions reduced 3K FC’s points from 21 to 19, their position remains unchanged in 9th place due to a superior goal difference of +2. Migori Youth, also on 19 points but with a goal difference of +1, remain in 10th place.

Other sanctioned clubs

In other rulings, NSL team Muhoroni Youth and FKF Division One sides Sigalagala Polytechnic, Vegpro FC, and Young Bulls FC were penalised for causing match abandonments. Each club forfeited their matches on a 2-0 scoreline, with three points awarded to their opponents.

  • Muhoroni Youth lost their match to Darajani Gogo for failing to provide a standard match ball. The result moved Darajani Gogo to fourth on the NSL table with 28 points, while Muhoroni Youth remain at the bottom with 11 points.
  • Sigalagala Polytechnic forfeited their match against Kiminini Combined after their players walked off the pitch in protest over refereeing decisions.
  • Vegpro FC was sanctioned for failing to provide an ambulance within the stipulated time, leading to the abandonment of their match against Green Commandos.
  • Young Bulls FC lost points to Kibra United after their players walked off the pitch with two minutes remaining. The players protested a penalty awarded to Kibra United. Additionally, three Young Bulls players—Ali Mwarandu, John Owino, and Patrick Daido—received warning letters for verbally abusing match officials, as noted in the referee’s report.
