Despite Cameroon's attempt to regain possession, Bayo broke the deadlock in the 10th minute, causing controversy over a potential foul in the lead-up. VAR officials confirmed the goal, leaving Cameroon trailing. Although Cameroon improved in possession, their forward line struggled, concluding the first half without a single shot on target. Guinea's quick transitions kept Cameroon on their toes, but they managed to escape without conceding further goals.
Just before halftime, Cameroon received a boost when Guinea's captain, Francois Kamano, was sent off after VAR intervention for dangerous play. The National Elephants faced the entire second half with a numerical disadvantage. However, six minutes into the second half, Frank Magri scored a crucial equalizer for Cameroon, heading home a Georges-Kevin N'Koudou cross.
The tempo of the game slowed after the equalizer, with few chances for either side. Despite being a man down, Guinea remained dangerous on the break, while Cameroon, in their pursuit of a winner, pushed numbers forward. Both teams had half-chances, but the match ultimately ended in a one-all draw, leaving Guinea relieved and Cameroon ruing missed opportunities.
Cameroon will face Senegal on Friday, seeking redemption, while Guinea is set to take on Gambia in their next encounter.
