KENYA CUP: Kabras and KCB dominate as unbeaten run continues

Kabras Sugar and KCB Rugby continued their dominant start to the 2024-25 Kenya Cup season with convincing wins, while Menengai Oilers edged out Nondescripts to remain unbeaten. Elsewhere, Strathmore Leos, Kisumu RFC, and South Coast Pirates picked up crucial victories as Nakuru RFC’s relegation worries deepened.

Kabras Sugar and KCB Rugby extended their perfect starts to the 2024-25 Kenya Cup season with emphatic victories on Saturday.

Defending champions Kabras ran riot at the Bull Ring in Kakamega, thrashing Blak Blad 62-6, while KCB Rugby overpowered Kenya Harlequins 38-22 at the KCB Sports Club.

Both sides were among four unbeaten teams heading into the weekend, with the other two - Menengai Oilers and Nondescripts - clashing in Nakuru in a highly anticipated showdown. Like Kabras and KCB, the Oilers and Nondies had won all six of their matches before the weekend. However, it was the Nakuru-based Oilers who preserved their unbeaten streak, edging out Nondies 34-25.

Meanwhile, Impala slumped to their second straight loss, falling 24-20 to Strathmore Leos at the Impala Grounds. The Leos, after starting the season with five consecutive defeats, have now secured back-to-back wins.

At the Kisumu National Polytechnic, Kisumu RFC bagged their second win of the season with a commanding 25-5 victory over Mwamba, who remain stuck on a single win. South Coast Pirates also recorded their second triumph, blanking bottom-placed Nakuru RFC 17-0 at the Seacrest Grounds in Diani.

Nakuru RFC’s struggles deepened, as they remain the only team yet to register a win this season. Their latest defeat leaves them teetering on the brink of relegation.
