Kenya names final squad for FIBA Afrobasket Women’s qualifiers

Kenya has named a 12-player squad for the FIBA Afrobasket Women’s Qualifiers in Cairo, Egypt, set for February 3-8, 2025. Led by captain Seline Okumu, the team features a blend of experienced players and rising stars as they compete for the sole qualification spot.
The Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) has announced the final squad for the FIBA Afrobasket Women’s Qualifiers, set to take place in Cairo, Egypt, from February 3-8, 2025.
The 12-player team includes a mix of experienced players and emerging talent as Kenya seeks the sole qualification spot for the continental tournament.
Veterans such as captain Seline Okumu, Mercy Wanyama, Belinda Okoth, and Vilma Owino will provide leadership, while younger players, including Ashley Minayo (Zetech Sparks), Elizabeth Okumu (Equity Hawks), and Margaret Nereah (Strathmore Swords), have earned spots in the squad.
Head coach George Mayienga, assisted by Sylvia Kamau, has overseen training at Nyayo National Stadium and Ulinzi Sports Complex since January 10, with the team holding a residential camp at Kasarani ahead of departure.
Kenya will compete against Egypt, Uganda, Burundi, and South Sudan, with only one team securing a place at the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket 2025 in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The team departs for Cairo tonight.
