Kenyan marathon world record holder Ruth Chepngetich has been confirmed as the headline act for the 2025 EDP Lisbon Half Marathon, set for March 9.

Carlos Moia, President of the Maratona Clube de Portugal, emphasised the significance of her participation. "The presence of the best athletes in the sport here in Lisbon confirms our event’s prestige on the international calendar," he said.
Chepngetich boasts an impressive career, including the 2019 World Championship marathon title (Doha) and multiple victories in Chicago (2021, 2022, 2024), Nagoya (2022, 2023), Dubai (2019), and Istanbul (2018). She is also the sixth-fastest woman in half marathon history, having run 1:04:02 in Istanbul in 2021.
Her participation raises expectations for a potential course record challenge. The current mark, 1:05:30, was set by Ethiopia’s Almaz Ayana in 2023.
More elite names will be announced in the coming weeks for the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon, which will also serve as Portugal’s National Half Marathon Championship, featuring the country’s top runners.
