Kenya Pipeline one step away from CAVB Zone V glory after sweeping aside Sport S

The defending champions showcased their superiority with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-15) win, booking their place in the finals against APR Women of Rwanda on March 3.

Kenya Pipeline Volleyball Club (KPC) is on the brink of reclaiming the CAVB Zone V Championship title after a dominant straight-sets victory over Uganda's Sport S in the semi-finals on Sunday night.

The defending champions showcased their superiority with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-15) win, booking their place in the finals against APR Women of Rwanda on March 3.

From the first whistle, Faith Imodia set the tone for Pipeline with an early strike, putting the Kenyan side ahead. Sport S briefly restored parity, but Maria Musa reestablished Pipeline's lead before an errant serve handed Sport S another point.

Betty Sifuna extended Pipeline's advantage to 3-1, but Sport S again found a response. A failed serve from the Ugandan side gave Pipeline their fourth point, and the defending champions began to take control, stretching their lead to 6-3.

Despite a wayward serve from Loise Simiyu, which allowed Sport S to cut the deficit to 6-4, Sifuna responded emphatically, soaring high to score another crucial point, making it 7-4. Pipeline's momentum grew, forcing Sport S into errors as they pulled away. The first set concluded 25-19 in favour of the oil merchants.

The second set was a tighter affair, with Sport S pushing hard to disrupt Pipeline's rhythm. However, Coach Geoffrey Omondi's side remained composed under pressure, capitalising on their opponent's mistakes to secure a 25-22 win.

In the third and final set, Pipeline shifted into top gear, displaying sheer dominance. Their powerful attacks, superior net defence, and precise serves overwhelmed Sport S, sealing the match with a 25-15 victory.

The oil merchants are determined to defend the crown they clinched last year in Kigali, where they dispatched the Rwanda Revenue Authority in straight sets.
