Kenyan referee Dickens Mimisa selected to officiate at 2025 AFCON U20 tournament in Egypt

Kenyan referee Dickens Mimisa has been selected among 14 African officials for the 2025 AFCON U20 tournament in Egypt. The 33-year-old, who recently officiated the Mashemeji Derby, continues to rise in the ranks of African refereeing.

Kenyan referee Dickens Mimisa, 33, is among 14 African referees selected to officiate at the 2025 AFCON U20 tournament, set to take place in Egypt from April 27 to May 18.

Mimisa, who recently officiated the Mashemeji Derby between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia, has been a FIFA referee since 2023. He was previously assigned to officiate at the 2023 AFCON U17 tournament in Algeria, further solidifying his growing reputation on the continental stage.

His standing as one of Kenya’s top referees is reinforced by his regular assignments in CAF club competitions and CECAFA tournaments. He was also recognised as the best male referee for the 2023/24 FKF Premier League season at last year’s FKF Awards gala.

Beyond refereeing, Mimisa is also a civil engineer, having graduated from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in 2015.

Meanwhile, Kenya’s U20 national football team will make its debut in the tournament, having been drawn in Group C alongside reigning champions Senegal, 2017 winners Zambia, and debutants Sierra Leone
