Kenya Pipeline secure top spot in group stages, eye 2025 African title glory

Kenya Pipeline have been in commanding form at the 2025 African Women Volleyball Club Championship, securing the top seed in the Round of 16.

Kenya Pipeline have been in commanding form during the group stages of the 2025 African Women Volleyball Club Championship, winning all three of their matches and securing the top seed for the upcoming Round of 16 fixtures.

The tournament, which is being held in Abuja, Nigeria, marks the first time the West African nation is hosting the event in 29 years. Starting on Friday, April 3, the competition will run until the finals on Monday, April 14.

Kenya is represented by KCB, Kenya Pipeline, and Kenya Prisons at the competition.

Kenya Pipeline, five-time winners of the tournament, dominated their group, conceding only two sets across their three matches. They began with a 3-1 win over Police of Rwanda on Friday, followed by another 3-1 victory against Cameroon’s Litto on Saturday. On Sunday, they wrapped up the group stage with a 3-0 triumph over Descartes of Ivory Coast, finishing top of Group D with nine points.

In Group B, Kenya Prisons - five-time African champions - recovered from a 3-0 loss to Zamalek of Egypt with back-to-back wins over Spiking Stars of Botswana and Nigeria’s Chief Naval, finishing second in the group with six points behind Zamalek, who topped the group with nine points.

KCB, two-time winners of the competition, secured second place in Group C after a 3-2 loss to record African champions Al Ahly in their final group match. KCB had previously registered dominant 3-0 victories over La Loi of Congo-Brazzaville and Senegal’s Sococim. With seven points, the Bankers finished second in the group, with Al Ahly topping with eight points.

As top seed, Kenya Pipeline will face fourth-place Spiking Stars of Botswana in the Round of 16. KCB and Kenya Prisons, who finished second in their groups, will meet teams that finished third in other groups—Kenya Prisons will play Police of Rwanda, while KCB faces Nigeria Customs.

KCB remains the last Kenyan team to win the tournament, clinching the title in 2022, while Kenya Pipeline will be eager to end a long title drought, having last won the competition in 2005. They were runners-up in 2023 and finished third in 2022 and 2024.

With the knockout stages now in full swing, all eyes are on Kenya Pipeline as they aim to claim another title and end years of near-misses.
