Rwanda’s APR FC, Tanzania’s KMC FC extend unbeaten run at CECAFA Kagame Cup

Rwanda’s APR FC and Tanzania’s KMC FC continued their winning streaks at the CECAFA Kagame Cup 2025 after securing victories in their respective Group B fixtures played on Saturday at the Gen. Isamuhyo Stadium.

KMC edged Burundi’s Bumamuru FC 1-0, thanks to a 20th-minute strike from Erick Mwijage. The forward’s decisive goal ensured the Tanzanian side stayed unbeaten in the competition.

“I am happy to score the only goal that has earned us three important points,” Mwijage told reporters after the game. His coach, Marcio Maximo, applauded the team’s resilience against tough opposition.

“I am very happy that we have an opportunity to play in this tournament during this period because it helps us prepare better for the 2025/2026 Tanzania Premier League,” said the former Taifa Stars tactician.

In the day’s second encounter, reigning Rwanda Premier League champions APR FC eased past Zanzibar’s Mlandege FC with a 2-0 victory.

The army side struck once in each half, with Dad Rouaf opening the scoring in the 30th minute before William Togui doubled the lead shortly after the restart.

Togui had earlier squandered a chance from the spot, with Mlandege goalkeeper Alex Gidion producing a fine save. Despite creating opportunities through Raphael Futakamba and Aimar Hafidh, the Zanzibar side failed to capitalise.

The win lifted APR FC to the top of Group B with six points, holding a superior goal difference over second-placed KMC FC.

Action continues today with an all-Sudan affair as Alahly SC Wad Madani face giants Al Hilal Omdurman, before Somalia’s Mogadishu City Club take on South Sudan’s Kator FC in Group C at the KMC Stadium.
