Sunday FKF Premier League fixtures preview: High stakes across the board as action heats up

The final fixture of the day will see the ‘Serikali vs Sirkal’ derby, as defending champions Kenya Police FC face traditional giants Gor Mahia at the Nyayo Stadium.

Ulinzi Stars vs Shabana FC – Ulinzi Sports Complex, 2:00 pm

Even after parting ways with their head coach, Dunstan Nyaudo, Ulinzi Stars have yet to secure a win in their last five matches in the FKF Premier League. Their most recent outing ended in a 1–1 draw against Gor Mahia, a game in which the soldiers became the first team to score against K’Ogalo in open play this season.

Boniface Muchiri brought the game level after Felix Oluoch had given Gor Mahia a sixth-minute lead. The draw followed three consecutive defeats: a 2–1 loss to Mara Sugar, a 3–1 defeat to Kakamega Homeboyz, and another setback against Bidco United.

Ulinzi currently sit 17th on the table with six points from seven matches, and will be desperate to halt their poor run of form.

Their visitors, Shabana FC, head to the Ulinzi Sports Complex with a similar recent record: draw, loss, loss, loss, draw, leaving them 10th on the 18-team log with eight points from seven matches.

Their latest outing, a goalless draw against Kariobangi Sharks, was a tense affair marked by moments of controversy, as the Tore Bobe faithful voiced frustration over what they deemed poor officiating. Both sides will be eager to return to winning ways in what promises to be a closely fought contest.

APS Bomet vs Mathare United – Green Stadium, Kericho, 2:00 pm

APS Bomet are still searching for consistency in the top flight following their maiden promotion. In six matches, the Black Berets have managed only one win, a 2–1 victory over Kariobangi Sharks.

Led by Benedict Wanjala, they currently occupy the bottom of the table with four points, their most recent result being a 0–0 draw with Bidco United.

Mathare United, meanwhile, come into the match on the back of two consecutive defeats, 2–0 losses to both Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards. The Slam Boys’ last victory came in a 1–0 win over Shabana FC.

With both sides struggling for form, this fixture offers a crucial opportunity to regain confidence and climb the standings.

Kakamega Homeboyz vs Murang’a Seal – Bukhungu Stadium, 3:00 pm

Kakamega Homeboyz have turned Bukhungu Stadium into a fortress this season. The league leaders have lost only once, a 2–0 home defeat to Nairobi United, but have since bounced back strongly with three consecutive wins and a draw.

Their victories over Bidco United, Ulinzi Stars, and APS Bomet, coupled with a 1–1 draw against Tusker FC in their latest outing, have solidified their position at the top. In that match, substitute Machaka came off the bench to rescue a point for Abana Beingo.

On the other hand, Murang’a Seal appear to be finding their footing after a rocky start to the season. Under Osborne Monday, the side has recorded two wins against APS Bomet and KCB, alongside three defeats and a 2–2 draw with Posta Rangers.

With both teams in improving form, this clash promises an entertaining contest in Kakamega.

Bandari FC vs KCB – KPA Sports Club, 3:00 pm

Bandari FC will be keen to bounce back from their 3–1 loss to Nairobi United in Dandora. That defeat followed two consecutive draws, leaving the Dockers just above the relegation zone in 16th place with six points from six matches. Their last victory came against Murang’a Seal, where they triumphed 3–1.

KCB, led by Robert Matano, began the season brightly but has since stumbled, losing their last three matches, including their most recent setback against Murang’a Seal. The bankers share the same points tally as Bandari and will view this fixture as a perfect opportunity to reignite their campaign.

Kenya Police FC vs Gor Mahia – Nyayo Stadium, 4:00 pm

The final fixture of the day will see the ‘Serikali vs Sirkal’ derby, as defending champions Kenya Police FC face traditional giants Gor Mahia at the Nyayo Stadium.

Both teams are in strong form and their clash is expected to deliver fireworks, with end-to-end action likely to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

Kenya Police, unbeaten this season, have collected eight points from four matches, winning twice and drawing twice. Their latest victory came courtesy of Edward Omondi “Ondimo”, whose lone goal sealed a 1–0 win over Sofapaka.

Gor Mahia, meanwhile, head into the fixture following a 1–1 draw with Ulinzi Stars. K’Ogalo suffered defeat in their opening match of the season against Bidco United but responded with a run of consecutive wins before being held by Ulinzi.

The record champions remain one of the most disciplined and balanced sides in the league, boasting a number of players recently called up to the Harambee Stars squad for the upcoming international friendlies in Turkey, the highest representation from any FKF Premier League club.
