Harambee Stars climb six spots in latest FIFA rankings

The rise is largely credited to Kenya's recent performances in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Kenya's national football team, Harambee Stars, has jumped six places in the latest FIFA World Rankings released on Thursday by the global football governing body. The team now sits at position 102, a significant improvement from their previous position of 108 in the last two rankings.
Harambee Stars' current points tally stands at 1208.96, a notable increase from 1197.73 points in the previous ranking. This boost is attributed to the team’s performances in the recent 2025 AFCON qualifiers.
In their Group J qualifier, the Stars were held to a 0-0 draw by Zimbabwe’s Warriors in a match played in Uganda on 6th September. Four days later, Kenya claimed an impressive 2-1 victory over Namibia in South Africa, a result that heavily contributed to their rise in the rankings, as Namibia was ranked 98th before the match.
On the global stage, the top 10 remains unchanged, with Argentina holding on to the number one spot, followed by France and Spain in second and third place, respectively. Completing the top 10 are England, Brazil, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal, Colombia, and Italy. Once again, no African team has broken into the top 10.
Morocco remains Africa's highest-ranked team, staying at position 14 while gaining 6.7 points since the previous rankings. Senegal, despite dropping two places to 21st, and Egypt, which climbed five places to 31st, round out the top three African teams.
The rest of the top 10 African teams include Ivory Coast (33rd), Tunisia (36th), Nigeria (39th), Algeria (41st), Cameroon (53rd), Mali (54th), and DR Congo (58th), the latter being the only East African side in the top 10.
Closer to home, Uganda and Tanzania also made gains, climbing five places each to positions 90 and 110, respectively. Kenya could break into the top 100 in the next rankings if they secure a positive result against Cameroon in their upcoming fixture next month.
