Angela Okutoyi wins second Gold at ITF Women's World Tennis Tour

The Auburn University student had previously made history in July by becoming the second Kenyan player to secure a professional singles tennis title at the ITF W15 Monastir.
Kenya's Angela Okutoyi secured her second gold at the ITF Women’s World Tennis Tour (W25) event by defeating Germany's Lena Papadakis in the singles final at the Nairobi Club on Saturday, December 23, 2023.
The 19-year-old showcased her prowess by starting the match strongly, claiming the first set 6-3. Despite facing a setback with a 6-1 loss in the second set, Okutoyi made a remarkable comeback, dominating the third set with a comfortable 6-1 score to clinch the title.

"I am really grateful for this win; it means so much to me. I feel like hard work really pays off if you stay focused and disciplined, which is what I've been doing. I know last week wasn't it, but this week I really tried to stay focused, and here I am with two golds now," Okutoyi said.

Tennis Kenya president James Kenani commended Okutoyi for her contributions to the sport in the country and urged more youth to consider tennis as a career.
“The positive energy from the crowd can be a tremendous source of motivation for the players, helping them perform at their best. This match marks a milestone for Kenyan tennis and inspires aspiring athletes in the region," he said.
With this victory, Okutoyi earned $25,000.
